Nearly twenty years ago Monika Linton established Brindisa to import the finest food and ingredients from the most respected producers in Spain. Since then she has created a veritable empire based around the popular stall at the heaven that is Borough Market.
Nowadays Brindisa has a more permanent home for its vittles at Exmouth Market – certainly worth a visit for any ardent Hispanophiles or really anyone with a passing interest in food. The retail outlets won them Best Retailer in 2006 from Observer Food Monthly; however, if it’s Sherry you’re after you need to head to Tapas Brindisa at Borough Market.
Located in a converted potato warehouse on the edge of Borough Market it’s a funky affair with wood panelling and poured concrete floor. Presumably licence issues have designated this as Brindisa’s de facto Sherry outlet – and you can certainly find a bottle or two here, running the gamut of styles.
While you’re here you can take in the stand-up tapas, sit down for a meal or enjoy watching the ham being professional hand-carved with a glass or two of Sherry. It’s so intoxicating an atmosphere you need to be careful not to forget what you came in for.
